CLP Lingiari candidate Jacinta Price has come under attack from Labor for her GoFundMe page.

CLP Lingiari candidate Jacinta Price has come under attack from Labor for her GoFundMe page.

NT Labor Branch Secretary Anthony Brereton sent letters to GoFundMe and Australian Electoral Commissioner Tom Rogers saying the Page “is possibly in breach of a number of provisions of the Commonwealth Electoral Act”. It goes on to say that the Page “is not authorised, as required by S321D of the Act”.

The letter goes on to say that “it is not clear how the Country Liberal Party can possibly meet its obligations for disclosure of donations as required under Division 4 of the Act.”

The letter raises the possibility that Ms Price’s Page raises questions about whether it collects all the necessary information about donors.

CLP Territory Director Jason Riley was dismissive of the letters, and said, “Anthony Brereton, has clearly signalled his concern Jacinta Price is performing very well in the electorate of Lingiari. His letter to GoFundMe on February 15 was a clumsy effort to have the page shut down, regardless that Labor Candidates also use the platform for fundraising.”

Ms Price told this newspaper she was unconcerned.

“Labor have demonstrated their callous (nature) by employing underhanded tactics to try to interfere in my campaign because clearly they feel threatened. Rather than focus on issues important to those in Lingiari they would try to strip funding from me as an Aboriginal woman candidate up against an old white male who has lost the confidence of many I speak to within the electorate including longtime Labor members and supporters to represent them. What more would I expect from a party who has used Aboriginal people for their own political needs and done little to improve their lives in Lingiari for all these years?”
