A VISITOR Park for Tennant Creek that will provide a range of accommodation options for transitional and seasonal visitors has been given a $9.5m boost in the NT Government’s 2020/21 Budget.
Also boosting visitor experiences in the town is $4683 for new gold rush and ore mining interpretative displays.
Borroloola’s sports courts will be upgraded with a $2500 cyclone shelter.
The budget invested more than $26m to continue extensions to the arts trail of galleries in Arnhem Land, Katherine ($8500) and Tennant Creek ($7972), and $3.4m in improvements would be made to the Tennant Creek watch house, to start in the second quarter of 2021.
In the Barkly region, there’s $9.9m for upgrades to Purkiss Reserve that are due to start in January and will include the improvement of community sporting and recreational facilities.

A $2.2m ‘one-stop-shop’ Barkly Business Hub is scheduled to be completed by October 2021 that will “facilitate business and innovation, including supporting local businesses and local skills development”.
Chamber of Commerce NT Chief Operating Officer Nicole Walsh said it was a “strong investment”.
Ms Walsh also said it was great to see an “investment in young people” with a new $2.5m facility at Tennant Creek High School aimed to improve education and employment prospects.
“That support for organisations supporting our vulnerable persons in the community is really important,” she said.
“Anything that provides better liveability for people in regional areas is always welcomed, particularly in the Barkly region which is very community orientated.”
Ms Walsh said businesses in the Katherine CBD were looking forward to the completion of upgrades that would create local jobs.
