Alice Springs bodybuilder pleads guilty to multiple counts of drug possession

A bodybuilder in Alice Springs has fronted court after being charged with possessing over $2000 worth of steroids.
Tien Thanh Nguyen, 26, pleaded guilty to 11 counts of unauthorised possession of a Schedule four substance, and three counts of possessing a schedule two drug in the Alice Springs Local Court on Monday.
According to a statement of facts seen by the NT News, Nguyen visited Melbourne in March 2019 where he entered into an agreement with an unknown supplier to purchase steroids.

The steroids were sent to Alice Springs via a road transport company and the defendant had an intention to use these products for his own personal use in bodybuilding.
Four packages containing a range of drugs including tablets, testosterone and vials of liquids were sent to Alice Springs and the defendant attended the TNT depot to collect the first package in December 2019.
Nguyen collected the other three packages in January and February.
In March an NT Police investigation commenced in relation to a large number of suspect packages that were sent from Melbourne. Police collected CCTV footage and identified the defendant collecting the packages.
In June, Nguyen participated in an interview and made admissions to purchasing the steroids and agreed to surrender the items to police.
At no time did the defendant hold a medical prescription authorising him to lawfully possess the substance.
The defendant refused to provide the name of his supplier or the name of the gym where he met the supplier during his trip to Melbourne.

Defence lawyer John McBride said the judge should consider not recording a conviction and that Nguyen hasn’t consumed those drugs since his arrest.
Prosecutor Leah Tomkins said the matter was not of trivial nature and a conviction should be recorded. Nguyen will be sentenced this morning.
