ALICE SPRINGS’ slow-cooked Mexican eatery Loco Burrito has had a solid summer trading period, thanks to the support of locals who stayed in the Red Centre because of the fear of COVID restrictions interstate.
“Overall, the numbers pan out to about the same as last year but we opened a week later this January than last, so on a per day basis we are up. And we have to thank the locals for that,” business owner Nick Bitar said.

Mr Bitar and his wife and business partner Allison Bitar said the travel restrictions arising from the pandemic have crystallised for them how strong a relationship their business has with the town’s residents.

“We’ve had an amazing amount of local support and that’s been a real buzz for me,” Mr Bitar said.
“They’ve really come to the forefront and helped us out. “At the beginning od COVID there was a big public push: shop local and all that. But the good will seems to have continued.”
