AN alleged child abductor from Tennant Creek has faced court in Alice Springs on Wednesday morning charged with trespass and abduction.

Rod Riguez Tracker, 19, appeared by video link to the Alice Springs Local Court on Wednesday charged with abducting a child under the age of 16 years and trespass.

According to a police spokesperson, Northern Territory Police charged the teenager in relation to an alleged child abduction that occurred in Tennant Creek on Sunday 19 July 2020.

About 12:30am, Tracker allegedly removed a sleeping 9-year-old girl from her home in Tennant Creek, according to police.

The child allegedly woke outside of a nearby unit complex, screamed at the male and ran home to her family who notified police.

The male was later arrested, charged and taken to the Tennant Creek Watch House.

Defence lawyer Anna Gill told Judge David Bamber that the matter could be dealt with in the Local Court.

“I was going to propose perhaps a week or two adjournment just for us to see Mr Tracker in person. I’ll liaise with the Crown about how they wish to proceed,” she said.

Judge Bamber agreed to adjourn the matter so Tracker could receive an opportunity to see a lawyer.

“It’s just a week adjournment Mr Tracker, so the parties can sort out how this will proceed after your lawyer gets the chance to see you and talk to you properly about the matter,” he said.

Judge Bamber remanded Tracker in custody and adjourned the matter for mention by video link on 29 July at the Alice Springs Local Court.

Police are reminding parents, carers and children to remember the four R’s:
