44 JOBS: Upgrades coming to Tennant Art and Culture Centre

THE Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre design tender is open, preparing to boost to the local economy with jobs and more opportunities for local artists.

FORTY-four jobs will be supported and more opportunities for local artists will be created with the $8 million upgrades to the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre (NNACC) in Tennant Creek, now the design tender has been released.

The upgrades will enhance the entrance area, gallery, artist studios, and retail and office spaces.

It will include art storage and preparation areas and upgrades to landscaping, performance areas and accessible footpaths.

Businesses tendering for the design work at the centre can view the site remotely through a virtual 3D fly-through.

Minister Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss said investment in NT’s regions were critical to “ensure the art and cultural sector can rebound when the time is right”.

“With more than a hundred community art galleries, museums and keeping places in the Territory, our rich art and culture is a key economic driver for our creative industries,” Ms Moss said.

“It’s great to see works progressing at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre – this investment will help local artists to share their culture, showcase their work and offer an enhanced and immersive visitor experience.”

The project is part of the Territory Labor Government’s $30 million Arts Trail Regional Gallery Extension Program which is being rolled out across Tennant Creek, Katherine and Arnhem Land following targeted consultation.

Member for Barkly, Gerry McCarthy MLA said it was important to “continue to invest in cultural facilities like Nyinkka Nyunyu to enhance visitor offerings, share the Warumungu culture and support local artists, jobs and businesses in the recovery from COVID-19.”

“Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre is a footpaths for over 130 Warumungu and Barkly region artists who sell their unique artworks and artefacts both in store and online.”

This project is progressing in consultation with Julalikari Council Aboriginal Corporation.
