CDRL: Storm out to play spoiler in midweek Amco Cup throwback

It’s no quite the Amco Cup but Edmonton coach Anthony Satrick is expecting an old-fashioned war of attrition when the Storm make the trip to Smithfield on Wednesday night.

It’s not quite the Amco Cup but Edmonton coach Anthony Satrick is expecting an old-fashioned war of attrition when the Storm make the trip to Smithfield on Wednesday night.

“It’s always a tough and physical game (against Ivanhoe) and we know that,” he said.

“We’ll be tough and solid and looking to upset them through our aggression.

“Hopefully it’s controlled aggression and we can keep all blokes on the football field, and we’ll see who’s willing to get in the lane and who’s willing to step out of the way.”

He said there was a feeling that anything could happen in the rescheduled midweek clash.

“It’s an interesting one,” he said.

“I think the team that turns up with the right attitude and the willingness to compete on all different levels will get the peanuts.

“We’re trying to spoil a party so we’ll turn up with all guns blazing and have a bit of fun.”

Satrick said he would have to monitor his players’ more closely this week, with the Storm scheduled to face Kangaroos on a four-day backup this Sunday.

“It was unforeseeable so it is what it is,” he said.

“There were some negotiations about potentially not playing and taking a point each, but given Ivanhoe’s position and where they are (on the ladder), I think it’s only right that we turn up and have a bash out.”

The Knights sit one point ahead of Kangaroos in fifth position, with a win against the Storm all but locking up the last finals position.

The two sides were originally scheduled to meet last Friday, but the game had to be postponed due to a power outage.

The under-18s and reserve grade games were able to proceed, before the lights went out before the A-grade clash.

Kick-off on Wednesday night is at 7pm.

Brothers hang on by a thread against Yarrabah

They weren’t able to hand Brothers its second defeat of the season, but Yarrabah Seahawks president Sam Bann says the side will still take plenty of confidence from pushing the minor premiers close to their limit.

A Jordan Biondi-Odo field goal was all that could separate the two sides at Stan Williams Park on Sunday, as the Brethren claimed a thrilling 35-34 victory and denied the Seahawks from claiming their biggest scalp of the season with two weeks until finals.

Bann said the Seahawks were their own worst enemy in the dying stages with the game on the line.

“We had a chance to take the lead but just couldn’t convert, but that’s part of the game,” he said.

“We’ll take some confidence from it, we’ve just got to smarten up a bit.

“Brothers played smarter than us in the last 10 minutes and that was probably the difference.”

Yarrabah fullback Zac Mossman scored a double and proved difficult to handle close to the line, while Brothers’ under-18s flyer Honeheke Roesler-Hohaia bagged a hat-trick in just his third game of A-grade.

Yarrabah Seahawks will take on Mossman-Port Douglas Sharks in a third-versus-fourth clash at Jilara oval this Sunday afternoon.
