Carlyle Gardens Retirement Village seeks operator for restaurant, bar, and kitchen

If you have a background in hospitality, or are looking to expand, a Townsville retirement village needs you to run their restaurant and bar.

Hundreds of residents at Carlyle Gardens Retirement Village have their fingers crossed that an “astute operator” could be found to take over their restaurant, bar, and kitchen facility, after sitting dormant for several months.

Established in Condon 22 years ago, Carlyle Gardens includes 457 stand-alone residences and some 650 permanent residents on-site, who traditionally flocked to the facility’s restaurant and bar, which plays an important role as social hub.

Following the previous restaurant operator’s exit in November, work has been underway to find someone to take over, with the retirement village’s owner BlueCare tapping in Ray White Commercial (RWC) to launch a marketing campaign.

Senior Village Manager Geremy Tilley said they were looking for a person or business with a food and hospitality background, who may be interested in launching or expanding their venture.

Given that the village’s independent living units have their own kitchens, residents were able to prepare their own food during the closure, but missed dining out.

“Residents love the restaurant. It’s just so central for them,” Mr Tilley said.

“They like to go out and do things … it’s a social event for them … it’s a community get together.

“They really want to have some good food and just an opportunity to have a beer in the afternoon, and chill out.”

Open to suggestions about what sort of foods could be served, he said the venue not only serviced the villages resident’s, but was also open to the general public and for functions.

“I think just a fresh variety of food would be really nice, just a fresh vibrant up to date style,” Mr Tilley said.

“It’s well-known around the vicinity. It’s an affordable option for people to come in here, rentwise ($16,500 per year + GST and outgoings).

“Maybe they’re interested in pursuing an adventure, or maybe they’ve already got somewhere else and they want to expand. Express your interest to come and have a look.”

RWC director Troy Townsend said it was an excellent opportunity for an energetic operator to start trading within a highly-reputable and well-established retirement village.

“The 510 sqm tenancy is fully fitted with a commercial kitchen including equipment, bar, cold room, bathrooms, indoor and outdoor seating areas and function space,” Mr Townsend said.

“The lessor is offering extremely attractive lease terms and incentives to attract the best possible operator to service the large on-site customer base as well as the wider community.”
