Young boy airlifted to Townsville with serious head injuries after Cairns highway crash

A primary school boy has been airlifted to Townsville with life-threatening head injuries after a serious crash in Cairns on Monday night.

A primary school boy has been airlifted to Townsville with severe head injuries after a serious crash in Cairns on Monday night.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the two-car crash on the Captain Cook Highway near Holloways Beach about 7.11pm.

Several patients were assessed, including the young boy who was transported in a potentially life-threatening condition, first by road to Cairns Hospital and then by helicopter to Townsville University Hospital.

A man in his 50s with minor injuries was assessed on scene but declined transport to hospital.

Another man in his 40s with minor injuries was transported in a stable condition to Cairns Hospital.

One primary school aged girl with abdominal injuries was transported stable to Cairns Hospital.

The crash came just minutes after another driver was rushed to Cairns Hospital with facial injuries following a crash on the corner of Moody Street and Pease Street at 7.06pm.

It was a busy night for emergency services, with a teenager also being transported to hospital after a car rolled on the corner of Bellmere Lane and Harvey Road at Redlynch about 10.54pm.
