Armed with a knife, a woman has allegedly bundled kids and a dog into a car and driven the vehicle at police before dramatically crashing into a pole and finally being arrested.
The incident began on Sunday afternoon after emergency services were called to a disturbance on David St in Manunda.
As officers arrived, police allege the 23-year-old Manunda woman armed herself with a bladed weapon and loaded two children in a vehicle before fleeing the area.
While behind the wheel the woman allegedly drove the car directly at police, and on the wrong side of the road before smashing into a set of traffic lights on Ray Jones Dr, near Rigg St.
The woman was arrested after a short confrontation at the collision scene and both children and the dog were removed from the vehicle unharmed.
Police also allege the 23-year-old bit a police officer while she was in custody and en route to the Cairns Hospital for precautionary checks following the collision.
The woman has been charged with one count each of going armed as to cause fear, evasion, and dangerous operation of a vehicle, obstruct police, serious assault domestic violence offence, serious assault police, and driver not ensuring passengers wear seatbelts.
She was refused bail by police and held in custody before appearing before Cairns Magistrates Court on Tuesday, April 23.
