A man has been accused of hitting a woman’s dog after she allegedly struck him on the head with a metal bottle along the Cairns Esplanade.
Police allege on Tuesday, March 11, a 33-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man were involved in an assault and an act of animal cruelty.
The woman is accused of striking the man with a metal water bottle during a verbal argument, while police allege the man retaliated by hitting her dog.
Both individuals were arrested and now face charges, the woman for serious assault of a person over 60, and the man one count of animal cruelty prohibited.
They are due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on March 26 and have been issued a 30-day banning notices from the Cairns Safe Night Precinct.
