Queensland Fire and Rescue crews called to aid of woman clinging to a tree in the Barron River near Mareeba
A woman who was seen clinging to a tree in the Barron River near Mareeba early Friday afternoon has been rescued by the Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) swiftwater rescue crew.

A woman who was seen clinging to a tree in the middle of the Barron River near Mareeba around 1pm Friday has been rescued from by the Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) swiftwater rescue crew.
A Queensland Fire Department spokeswoman said a crew was called to Basalt Street in Mareeba around 12:45pm following reports there was a person ‘clinging to a tree in the middle of the river’.
The swiftwater rescue crews was called to assist and was on the scene within 20 minutes.
“Three crews have attended and the person was back on dry land by 1:30pm,” she said.
Queensland Police (QPS) also attended and the woman was taken to hospital for assessment, said a QPS spokeswoman.
It is not known how the person came to be in the river.
