TWO Far North holiday-makers have admitted they barely slept on Monday night after realising they’d struck lottery gold.
The Logan couple held one of three division-one winning Gold Lotto entries and will take home $1 million.
The pair, who bought their QuickPick entry from Spar Holloways Beach, learnt of their win after checking The Lott app on Monday night.
“We couldn’t believe it. We thought it must be a mistake,” the winning man said.
“Nothing like this has ever happened to us, so it felt like a dream.
“We called our kids to let them know and they thought we were joking, but we said, ‘I don’t think we are.
“We had a very restless night after that. We both had about an hour of sleep.”
The couple plans to seek advice from a financial adviser before deciding how to spend their winnings.
“We know we will use it for our retirement, but we want to make sure we are wise with it,” the woman said.
Spar Holloways Beach operations manager Paul Drabble said the entire team was celebrating.
“We were blown away when we realised we’d made one of our customers a millionaire,” he said.
“We only took ownership of the store 12 weeks ago, so this is so amazing for us.”
The couple’s win is the latest in a string of lottery successes for the region in recent years, which have included two $40 million windfalls.
A whopping $30,627,552.12 was also scored from 12 division-one winning entries across the region between December 1, 2019 and November 30, 2020.
Most recently a young Tully woman collected a cool $25,000 from a $2 scratchie outlay.
