A 10-year-old boy who was critically injured in a car accident in the Cape has spent his Christmas in Townsville hospital a week after the shocking crash.

He remains in a critical condition but is now stable.

The boy was injured when he was a passenger in a single-vehicle accident on the Peninsular Development Road near Laura on December 18.

The child was initially flown to Cairns Hospital by the Royal Flying Doctors for treatment for critical head injuries.

He was then flown south to Townsville University Hospital to receive specialist care.

He has remained in a critical condition for the last week but has shown some signs of stabilisation.

Paramedics attended the accident scene at 6pm where seven patients were assessed.

A female patient in her 40s was transported with a hip injury to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition.

Five stable uninjured patients did not require further treatment or transport to hospital.
