Kids busted for pelting bus with rocks and messing with racehorse

Wayward teens have been charged with a string of offences after allegedly throwing rocks at a moving bus before absconding from the roadside to release a racehorse from Cannon Park.

The law caught up with three boys aged between 11 and 14 near the intersection of Mulgrave Road and Sandown Close on Monday night after allegedly trespassing and committing public nuisance offences.

Police allege the boys had been throwing rocks at a bus travelling south on Mulgrave Road near the Gordon Creek bridge about 7pm.

The teens allegedly made a run for it when the bus driver stopped to check the vehicle for damage.

The Cannon Park Racecourse was the next target of the boys’ spree, police said.

Police allege the trio entered a fenced off area and released a horse before security staff stepped in to get the animal back inside its pen.

All three boys have been charged with one count each of trespass and commit public nuisance.

A 14-year-old Westcourt boy was allegedly involved in previous incidents and has been charged with an additional one count of stealing.

An 11-year-old Westcourt boy was also allegedly involved in previous incidents and has been charged with an additional four counts of stealing and one of enter premises.

All three boys are due to appear before Cairns Childrens Court on Wednesday, August 28.
