A 32-year-old Mareeba man has died following a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning in Julatten, 10km south of Mossman.

A Queensland Police Services spokeswoman said the Forensic Crash Unit was investigating the fatal single-vehicle crash.

According to police, initial investigations indicated the car crashed into a tree on Mossman Mount Molloy Rd near the intersection of Euluma Creek Rd about 4.15am.

The 32-year-old was the vehicle’s passenger.

Emergency crews arrived soon afterwards, but the 32-year-old male passenger died at the scene.

A 25-year-old male driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Mossman Hospital in a stable condition.

Anyone with information or dashcam of the crash, is urged to contact police.

A resident of the area said road closures were in place for most of the morning.

“My husband and son were going to go to Port Douglas but the highway was closed,” she said.

The spot of the accident did not strike her as a particularly dangerous area.

“However anywhere on the roads can be unsafe today.”

According to figures by Queensland Police, ten lives have been lost on Far North roads in 2023.
