Ryan Draper, in tribute to Mr Carroll, hoped his fallen mate would rest peacefully.

“You will be greatly missed by all who knew you,” he said.

“My deepest sympathy and condolences goes out to your family, loved ones and all who knew you.”

The shocking incident has stunned the tiny Far North town of Watsonville which has a population of just 190.

A 32-year-old Tablelands man charged with murder over Mr Carroll’s death was remanded in custody at the Mareeba Magistrates Court on November 24 to appear for a committal mention on January 31.

A police homicide investigation is ongoing.

Another friend of Mr Carroll’s, Kim Mohekey, expressed her grief at his sudden death.

“You are going to be greatly missed by us all, dear friend,” she said.

Leading the investigation into the shooting Detective Acting Inspector Tony Law said there were between three and four people at Mr Carroll’s home when he was allegedly shot, one of which called police.

“(The two men were) personal associates, known to each other,” Det Acting Insp Law said.

“It was a single shot to the chest.

“We are still establishing if others witnessed the incident, witness statements are still being taken.”
