Police are on the hunt for a man who busted into a Cassowary Coast property and allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old in the neck during an incident that’s shocked the tight-knit community.

On Saturday, June 14 a young man was flown to Cairns Hospital after he was stabbed in the throat at Bingle Bay.

Around 3.30am, an unknown man gained entry to a Webb Court residence before he held a knife to the young man’s neck.

A 21-year-old man sustained a laceration to his neck and was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The alleged stabber fled the scene before police arrived.

The 21-year-old is the son of Wongaling Beach business owners Wendy and Ben Palmer who announced The Shack Espresso Bar would be closed on Monday after the incident.

In a post to social media business owners expressed their gratitude that their son was recovering well.

“He has had his throat stitched, and is now waiting for surgery on his hand again,” the post read.

“But most importantly, (he) is good, much love and gratitude for all the love, thank you.”

On Monday police put out an appeal for information following what is thought to be an attempted break and enter gone wrong.

The wanted man is described as about 160cm tall, with a skinny build, and was wearing dark clothing.

Police are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam or CCTV vision during the time of the incident to come forward.
