Carey Group Wishing Tree Appeal helps Women’s Centre FNQ with a Christmas gift call out

A desire to have every child in the region wake up with a present under the Christmas tree is the motive behind an accounting firm’s appeal for locals to donate a wrapped game or toy.

Call on FNQ residents to help support Carey Group Wishing Tree Appeal

A Far North accountancy firm is inviting locals to pop into its offices and spread a little cheer to vulnerable famileis this Christmas.

According to Carey Group partner Greg Stanton, staff at their Cairns or Malanda offices have set up a Christmas tree where they will be placing wrapped gifts which they will donate to the Women’s Group FNQ, which helps families escape violence and abuse in Cairns and the Tablelands – and they want locals to join in.

“We chose to support the Women’s Centre FNQ as I’ve had an affiliation with them for about eights years, we do their audits and they are close to our hearts” he said.

“One of the happiest memories are opening presents and now for me it’s watching my kids opening their presents and I can’t imagine how bad it would be if you didn’t have that thrill, so we give that to people less fortunate than ourselves.

“So we invite people to bring in a wrapped present such as a board game or toy and we have cards here.”

Women’s Centre FNQ manager Nicole Dye said the Carey Group’s support was really appreciated at a time that so many people were having trouble making ends meet.

‘Their support is amazing,” she said.

“Being a fairly poorly-funded non-government organisation, getting any help we can at this time of the year is wonderful.

“Last year their support was amazing and we want to make it bigger and better and we look forward to seeing the smiles on the children's faces.”

The Carey Group offices are located at 188 Mulgrave Rd, Westcourt and at 17 Catherine St, Malanda.
