A man is dead after a devastating crash involving a prime mover and a car on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and Cairns.
Police are investigating the fatal collision, which occurred around 12:45pm near the Mullers Conn Range Track in Rungoo, 20km south of Cardwell at the foot of the Cardwell Range.
Initial investigations suggest a grey Holden sedan and a Scania G450 prime mover collided.
Tragically, the male driver and sole occupant of the Holden was pronounced dead at the scene. No details of the age of the man or where he was from have been provided yet.
The truck driver, a 59-year-old man from Kullogum in the Bundaberg region, escaped with minor injuries.
Forensic Crash Unit officers are piecing together the circumstances surrounding the crash and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward.
Earlier, poor phone reception in the area was causing difficulties for emergency services.

Queensland Ambulance Service said one patient was in a life-threatening condition and the truck driver being assessed by medics at the scene.
At 2.54 paramedics took a male patient in a stable condition to Ingham Hospital following the vehicle and truck crash at Damper Creek.
