Cairns stolen cars: Woman’s Mazda taken at Freshwater Pony Club

A woman standing next to her car was blindsided when someone came in from the side and allegedly stole it. Read how the alleged theft went down.

A WOMAN standing next to her car was blindsided when someone came in from the side and allegedly stole it at Freshwater Pony Club.

In just two days Cairns recorded ten stolen cars from Monday to Wednesday making it a total of 97 taken this month.

A police spokeswoman said the woman was standing next to her Mazda Cx3 when a car was parked next to them.

“An offender entered the vehicle, the Mazda, and drove away,” she said.

“That happened on the night of September 19 at 7.30pm.”

The spokeswoman said the incident was under investigation but no one had been charged yet.

Accounts on social media have reported seeing the mother with her two children loading up the car before preparing to leave.

The accounts said fortunately no one was in the car yet before the other one sped off but they were only about two metres from it.

There have been 959 cars taken this year, in 2021 there had been 782 stolen. At this rate, on average 4.7 cars have been stolen in the month of September.
