Cairns North vehicle and pedestrian incident gave boy life-threatening head injuries
A 6-year-old boy is in a critical condition after being struck by an SUV in Cairns on Thursday night.

A boy was taken to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries following a “pedestrian and vehicle incident.”
Queensland Ambulance Service reported paramedics attended to the incident on McLeod St, Cairns North, about 7.30pm on Thursday.
QAS then took the 6-year-old boy to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening head, abdominal and chest injuries.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said officer received reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle in Cairns North.
“Investigations indicate, about 7.45pm a Mitsubishi Outlander was travelling north along McLeod St when a 6-year-old child was struck by the vehicle.
“The driver, a 37-year-old Edge Hill man, remained on scene and is assisting police.
“The child was transported to Cairns Hospital in a serious condition.”
On Friday, she said police investigations were ongoing.
A Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service spokesman on Friday said the boy was in a critical condition and would be transferred to Townsville Hospital.
