Cairns man arrested after allegedly spitting at bus driver
A Cairns bus driver has been spat on after asking a passenger to leave the vehicle while in a separate incident a man has been hospitalised after being allegedly stabbed in the face with scissors.
A man has been arrested after allegedly spitting in the face of a Far North Queensland bus driver, yelling at passengers and playing loud music while on-board.
Police allege the 32-year-old boarded the bus at Koch Street in Manunda about 1.30pm on Tuesday, September 30, when he began playing loud music before shouting at other passengers.
After being warned by the driver, he refused to stop and was asked to leave the bus.
It is alleged the man then spat through the perspex screen, hitting the female driver in the face.
Police arrived shortly after and arrested him along Reservoir Road.
The 37-year-old has been charged with one count each of assault and public nuisance.
He has been refused bail and will appear before the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 1.
In a separate incident overnight a man has been refused bail after using scissors to stab a man’s face during an alleged a daylight confrontation.
The man was taken to hospital after allegedly suffering stab wounds to his face and arm from another man known to him.
Police say two 20-year-old men, who were known to each other, were involved in an altercation just after 12.30pm on Tuesday, September 30.
During the argument, it is alleged one of the men stabbed the other in the face and arm with a pair of scissors.
The victim was later transported by ambulance to Cairns Hospital for treatment.
The 20-year-old man has been charged with wounding, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, and assault.
He has been refused bail and is due to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today, October 1.
