‘All day menu’: Surprising new plans revealed as Two Blocks Cafe set to close

Renowned gourmet beachside cafe Two Blocks is set to close, as owner Daniel Williams reveals a tantalising hint about what comes next.

Cairns’ renowned gourmet beachside cafe Two Blocks – known for its creative and extravagant breakfast dishes – is set to close, with owner Daniel Williams revealing what's next for Holloways Beach’s iconic restaurant.

“We have been looking for another venue for quite some time,” Mr Williams said.

“Then something popped up in Trinity Park, Smithfield Village.”

He said he will be starting up a whole new restaurant and concept.

“We are taking Two Blocks and turning into an all-day dining menu,” he explained.

“There will also be a wine bar and deli section.”

Two Blocks opened in August 2019 when Mr Williams was just 27.

The cafe quickly developed a loyal and passionate following, in particular due to its innovative approach to standard breakfast fare such as the karaage eggs benedict, seasonal menus, and quality coffee offerings.

It currently stays open until 2pm.

“I didn't think we could have two venues open so close to the beach as they would be competition for each other,” Mr Williams said.

“We would definitely look at beaches and a city venue in the future, but (for now) two beaches is just too much.”

Mr Williams said his grandfather owned a restaurant in the UK and he has worked in restaurants since he was 15.

He is opening the new venue with Two Blocks chef Joshua Garrard.

Two Blocks will close on April 7 and the new venue will be operating the end of April.
