Cairns Post promotes Sian Jeffries to editor as Tyla Harrington to lead Gold Coast Bulletin

The Cairns Post has appointed its news director Sian Jeffries to the top job as current editor Tyla Harrington heads to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Sian Jeffries has been promoted to editor of the Cairns Post, with more than 17 years' experience in the media industry, while Tyla Harrington will move on to a new role as Gold Coast Bulletin editor.

A new editor will take over the Cairns Post later this month.

Sian Jeffries will replace Tyla Harrington who has been appointed editor of the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Ms Jeffries has worked for News Corp in Far North Queensland for more than 17 years and has taken on a variety of leadership roles in that time, most recently as the Post’s news director.

She brings a wealth of local knowledge to the role alongside her understanding of audience engagement and proven ability to lead the team.

Ms Jeffries begins the role later this month.

“The Cairns Post informs, entertains and advocates for Far North Queensland residents every day,” she said.

“It is an absolute privilege to lead the dedicated team of journalists and photographers who put their heart and soul into setting the daily news agenda and championing this region.

“Now is an exciting time for the Far North, we understand the challenges to be overcome and the prospects for growth, and I look forward to working with the community to ensure our region capitalises on every available opportunity.”

Ms Harrington said Ms Jeffries was an exceptional leader.

“Sian knows Far North Queensland better than anyone, and that understanding of the area and her experience as an outstanding journalist, positions her well to lead the Post to greater heights,” she said.

“It has been a privilege to work with her and the team at the Post to fight for better outcomes for this region.”

Queensland Regional Network editor Craig Warhurst also welcomed Ms Jeffries’ appointment.

“The Cairns Post has a proud history of representing Far North Queensland for more

than 140 years,” he said.

“Sian is ideally placed to champion and celebrate the region given her extensive knowledge of the area and proven ability to lead.”
