A female bottle shop employee at Broadbeach has been left “shaken” after being punched repeatedly by a 17-year-old girl, who was on bail for similar offending, during a violent robbery allegedly perpetrated by eight teens.
According to Queensland Police Superintendent Brett Jackson, at about 7.40pm on Saturday a group of eight juveniles entered BWS Broadbeach Main Place and “immediately started selecting items” from various fridges and display cabinets.
The female attendant attempted to intervene but was “punched in the face” multiple times by the eldest alleged offender, a 17-year-old girl who was on bail for similar offending, Superintendent Jackson said.
The group were tracked via council CCTV and arrested a short distance away, before being transported to Southport Police Station.
Superintendent Jackson said two members of the group, the 17-year-old girl and another teenager, were on bail at the time of the current alleged offending, and were charged with additional offences.
The other teenagers, who were aged between 13 and 16, were issued cautions under the Youth Justice Act 1992 on the basis they were “relatively new offenders” without concerning rap sheets, Superintendent Jackson said.
Any alcohol that was unopened and undamaged was returned to the bottle shop. The dollar value of the stolen goods was not known.
Superintendent Jackson said the bottle shop attendant was “definitely shaken” as a result of the alleged attack.
