After spending hours hosing down a “suspicious” blaze, Top End fire crews are returning to the same area less than 24 hours later with reports that a new fire has emerged.

On Saturday afternoon, Bushfires NT confirmed crews had been redeployed to the Darwin River Area, which had been the site of a suspicious blaze the day before.

In a statement online, Bushfires NT said volunteers from Darwin River and Berry Springs Volunteer Brigades had been tasked to fight the new blaze.

“Please be aware that aircraft and heavy machinery are working in the area and if travelling please slow down, put on your headlights and obey any directions of the firefighters,” the statement read.

“This fire initially started yesterday in this area and indications was that it was deliberately lit and has been referred for further investigation.”

The blaze comes in the middle of a 24 hour fire ban period that was announced for the Darwin and Adelaide River areas.

Anyone with information on suspicious activity is being urged to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
