A woman’s body has been found floating in a popular creek on the Gold Coast.
She is the fourth person to be found dead within the region in the past several days.
The grim discovery was made at Currumbin Creek near Whitsunday Drive at about 2.50pm on Wednesday.
The woman has not yet been formally identified, police say.
A Currumbin Waters resident said a neighbour found the woman’s body, telling the Gold Coast Bulletin they said she was fully dressed and wearing a small “child-size” vest that needed to be tied at the front with rope.
“It didn’t look like a normal life vest,” she was told.
A backpack was also reportedly found floating nearby.
These reports have not been confirmed by police and their investigation remains ongoing.
The woman’s body was pulled from the water with the assistance of the neighbour’s boat, with police divers and detectives on the scene.
Currumbin Creek is a popular recreational and swimming spot on the southern Gold Coast.
It is only the latest sudden death to be reported in the region within the past several days.
A woman aged in her 70s was found dead at Palm Beach, also in the area’s south, at about 5.40am on Monday.
She has been identified and her death is not being treated as suspicious.
The Gold Coast has recorded another two sudden deaths within the past several days.
A man was found dead on the rocks at Echo Beach in Tallebudgera on Saturday morning, with it reported police believe he may have suffered a medical episode by the water’s edge.
Another man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was found dead at a Varsity Lakes property on Sunday.
A police spokesperson said his death may have been related to misadventure or a medical incident, as per the Gold Coast Bulletin.
The three deaths are not being treated as suspicious by police.
