A woman in her 70s has been hospitalised with serious burns after she fell into a fire pit on Christmas Day.

An elderly woman has been injured after falling into a fire pit at a Queensland property on Christmas Day.

Emergency services were called to a private property in Conondale on the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday afternoon after reports a woman had fallen into a fire pit.

It's understood the woman, aged in her 70s, fell into the fire pit in her backyard and sustained severe burns to her back and abdomen.

She was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The woman was transported to a LifeFlight helicopter, which landed on a nearby school oval about 3.35pm.

She was then treated by a critical care doctor before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for further treatment.
