An Adelaide taxi driver will have to find a new job for the next 12 months after losing his licence for allegedly recklessly flipping his car and damaging three others in the process.
The driver allegedly lost control of the taxi and collided with the three other vehicles before spectacularly flipping upside down on New Year’s Eve.
Police allege that when questioned about the 3am accident, the driver refused to submit to a breath test and did not answer their questions truthfully.
Speaking to Nine News Adelaide, local resident Sheridan Alexander said she was woken by a loud bang.
“I popped my head out the window and could see smoke and all the neighbours,” she said.
After flipping the car, the driver then crawled out of the vehicle before his friends rushed to his assistance from a nearby home.
Police also allege that while it was initially unclear who was behind the wheel, witnesses quickly identified the driver, and after being questioned by police, the 25-year-old’s car was towed away.
“Really disappointing and frustrating for police that a professional driver, a taxi driver, who was off duty with no passengers thankfully, would be involved in an incident like this,” SA Police Assistant Commissioner Simon Watkins said.
The driver will lose his licence for one year and was charged with failing to comply with a breath test, failing to truly answer questions and driving without due care.
