A group of Taiwanese nationals have been attacked by a group in Brisbane in a shocking incident suspected to be racially motivated.

The incident occurred at South Bank just before 10pm Monday night, with one of the victims sharing video footage of the attack on Instagram, which has since been picked up by international media.

Four people were attacked, two 24-year-old men, one 23-year-old woman and one 24-year-old woman.

One of the victims, Wu Aiting, shared footage to Instagram of her walking with someone heard yelling out in the background.

She told Newswire that “at first they wanted to race us”.

“We said no,” Ms Aiting said.

“Then they started following us, throwing stones at us (and) harassing (us).”

The video cuts out several times but she is heard shouting “no”, “don’t” and “please stop” multiple times.

In one shot, a man is seen on the ground as a female repeatedly hits him across the head and back, with another girl seen on the ground next to him.

“We were simply walking down the street,” Ms Aiting wrote on her page.

“Four people (two male two female) came and shouted at us, then started to assault us, beating us up, saying they are attacking us just because we are Asians.

“All three of us are injured to different degrees, my leg was scratching with wounds, and one of my friend’s head is (swollen).”

Ms Aiting said one of her friends sustained eye injuries, one is under observation for a concussion and another was left badly injured.

“We want to place a lawsuit against these four people for physical assault and racial discrimination. They may not be over 18, but there is a juvenile court that should serve us justice,” she wrote.

Since the attack, Ms Aiting and her friends said that they were all fine and are “back to our normal lives”.

“I hope this kind of problem gets taken seriously,” she said.

“What’s surprises me the most is that a lot of people have (had) the same experience as us. That’s just not right.”

The incident received attention from Taiwanese media and the story was picked up over there.

The people involved in the attack are yet to be found.

“Investigations are actively continuing into this assault,” they said.

“Police are in the process of reviewing CCTV as well as speaking formally with witnesses and victims.

“The South Brisbane Cross Cultural Liaison Unit is also engaging with the Taipei and Economic Cultural Office to contact a victim who has since returned overseas.”

Police are urging anyone with any information regarding the incident to contact them.
