A woman has been found dead and a man is in custody after police were called to a welfare check in Brisbane.
Queensland Police confirmed they had been called to a Brunswick St property in Fortitude Valley to conduct the welfare check about 11am on Tuesday.
A police spokeswoman confirmed officers found the body of the woman inside the unit.
A man is assisting police with their inquiries.
Detective Karl Hahne later said it was very early on in the investigation and that a crime scene had been established.
“Detectives, forensics and uniform officers are on the scene at the moment,” he told reporters.
“The crime scene is ongoing and police will be there for a number of hours processing the scene and trying to establish exactly what has occurred.
“At this stage, there is no further threat to the community. We believe that this is contained.”
He said investigators would try to establish what occurred in the days leading up to woman’s death and would not make any comments on the identity of the victim as they were still trying to inform next of kin.
“The crime scene is around this unit block so we will be asking neighbours and residents for their help,” he said.
“If the broader public has specific information or further details, then come forward.”
