Queensland Police charge 20-year-old Rockhampton man with murder following 10-week-old baby’s death

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murder following the death of a 10-week-old baby girl in central Queensland.

Queensland Police launched an investigation into the child’s death after emergency services were called to Gracemere property, just outside of Rockhampton, about 11.15pm on January 19.

It’s understood the child was taken to Rockhampton Hospital with life-threatening injuries before she was flown to Brisbane for further treatment.

The young child died on January 22 in hospital.

Detective Inspector Luke Peachey said the girl was related to the alleged offender, according to the ABC.

“(The injuries) were substantial … very traumatic, again, for obviously all involved, including the police officers and emergency services,” Inspector Peachey said.

Rockhampton Child Protection Investigation Unit and specialist police from Crime and Intelligence Command’s Child Trauma Unit detectives have since charged a 20-year-old Rockhampton man with murder.

He is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Police are expected to give more details about the alleged murder at 10am.
