Murder charge after woman killed in botched Melbourne break-in

It’s believed a group broke into a home before the occupant shot one of the intruders, with another intruder then shooting the resident.

A man has been charged with murder following a shooting that left two people dead in Melbourne’s south.

Emergency services were called to a Parson St home in Rye on the Mornington Peninsula just before 4am on December 2 following reports of an alleged altercation.

Jack Gilmour, 29, and Mornington woman, Charlyze Hayter, 19, both died at the scene after they were treated for gunshot wounds.

It’s understood Mr Gilmour lived at the home and was known to police.

Police believe the deaths occurred after an altercation unfolded after a man and woman attended the home.

It’s believed Ms Hayter had broken into the home with another man and beat Mr Gilmour, before the 29-year-old shot Ms Hayer, according to Sky News.

Mr Gilmour was then shot by a male intruder who fled the scene.

On Friday police arrested two Narre Warren men, aged 25 and 24, as well as a 24-year-old Narre Warren South man and a 28-year-old Narre Warren North man.

A 24-year-old man has since been charged with murder, aggravated home invasion and armed robbery.

He was remanded and is set to front Melbourne Magistrates Court on May 23 next year.

The other three men were interviewed and released pending further investigation.
