The girlfriend of an Australian man who was found dead down a well in Mexico, has issued an emotional tribute six months on from the tragedy.
Perth brothers Callum Robinson, 33, and Jake Robinson, 30, went missing in Mexico alongside US citizen Jack Rhoad, 30, near the Rosarito and Ensenada region of Baja California in April.
A desperate search was launched after trio failed to arrive at accommodation they’d booked, with Mexican authorities later discovering their burnt-out white ute and three abandoned tents south of the Ensenada region.
Their bodies were found down a 15m well near the campsite on May 3, with four people arrested and one charged in relation.
Callum’s girlfriend, Emily Horwath, shared a photo this week of her and Callum on a beach at sunset, both smiling with sunnies and caps.
“Miss you massively,” she wrote on the Instagram story.
She described what it was like passing the tough anniversary over the weekend in another Instagram story.
“Coming out of this weekend I find myself trying to find the words. Heartbreak, love, comfort, emotional pain, exhaustion, community, respect, vulnerability,” she wrote.
“A lot of tears and a heavy absence all wrapped into me.”
She revealed Callum would have been playing at a lacrosse tournament this past weekend, an event he loved “more than anything”.
Ms Horwath said she’d never been able to experience it with him due to scheduling conflicts, however this year was meant to be the year.
“The anxiety going into this weekend was high. Anything that amplifies Cals absence puts me in a vulnerable place of not knowing how my emotions will show up in a group of people I hardly know,” she wrote.
“My insecurities heightened still heavily carrying a new sidekick of grief and learning this new version of myself I’m still so unfamiliar with.”
She added she understands what Callum saw in the lacrosse community before thanking those who had “wrapped their love around The Robinson’s and myself this weekend from the bottom of my grieving heart”.
“Thank you. The comfort and love you brought through sharing stories, a hug, tears and equal amount of laughs all while allowing a safe space to be authentic in our most vulnerable state was a gift,” Ms Horwath wrote.
“I feel so grateful to have experienced this incredibly special community that Callum loved so much.
“A community that will continue to honor Callum and Jakes legacy.”
In a separate post that is no longer available Ms Horwath posted photos of herself and Callum, the first one captioned “Six months without you, miss you endlessly”.
It’s been alleged Jesús Gerardo wanted to steal from the Robinson brothers and Mr Rhoad before he shot each of them in the head.
He then allegedly moved the bodies to the well (potentially with assistance from others) before burning the campsite.
His older brother, Christian Alejandro, was also arrested into the disappearances, along with his former girlfriend Ari Gisell, who will reportedly be a witness for the prosecution.
The case is set to return to court on November 8.
