An urgent recall has been issued for a popular seafood item sold at Aldi supermarkets across the country.
The recall concerns OceanRise anchovy fillets in olive oil and OceanRise anchovy fillets in olive oil with chilli, both 100g.
Aldi has recalled the product due to “elevated histamine levels” that could cause illness if consumed.
Symptoms of high histamine consumption include bloating, diarrhoea, headaches, flushing, eczema, irregular heartbeats, low blood pressure and wheezing.
More severe cases of high histamine consumption could lead to abdominal cramping and dizziness, according to Healthline.
The products have been available for sale at all Aldi stores across Australia, with all date codes being recalled
Aldi is warning consumers not to eat the anchovies and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
“Any consumers concerned about their health should seek medical advice,” The Food Standards website warns.
