As his wife and son looked on from the gallery, a retired Gold Coast concreter, who we’ve been able to identify, learnt his fate for three revolting assaults on a young girl in the 1980s. Here’s what we know.

A retired Gold Coast concreter and volunteer has been ordered to serve three months behind bars for historical child sexual offending.

Bradley Kim Goodingham, 70, who is believed to live on the northern Gold Coast, appeared in Southport District Court on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent treatment of a child under the age of 16.

The offending occurred on three separate occasions, all against the same girl, on various dates in the 1980s.

Four of the offences occurred on the Gold Coast, at Southport and Surfers Paradise, while the fifth was committed later in regional Queensland.

The first assault involved Goodingham slapping his penis on the girl’s face and then inserting it into her mouth.

The second assault involved Goodingham inserting his fingers into the girl’s vagina before ejaculating on her back, while the third and final assault related to Goodingham pulling his pants down and ordering the girl to give him oral sex. She refused.

Crown prosecutor Amalia Baker-Smith told the court Goodingham’s victim made “some disclosures over the years” but it was not until 2022 a formal police complaint was made.

Police attended his residence last year, where he admitted to having “sexual feelings” towards the girl and offending against her.

However, he also claimed he felt the young girl had “teased him”, Ms Baker-Smith told the court.

She conceded he had made “significant admissions and co-operated with police”, which ought to moderate the time he should spend behind bars.

Additionally, the court was told Goodingham had no prior criminal history.

Defence counsel Bernard Reilly told the court his client was basically born on the Gold Coast and went to school locally, leaving in Year 10 to become a concreter, eventually operating his own small business.

In later years, he had involved himself in a variety of volunteer work, mostly as a labourer on various charitable projects.

He has two children aged in their forties, one of whom was present in court supporting his dad, as was Goodingham’s long-term wife, who remains supportive of the defendant.

Goodingham was “deeply embarrassed and ashamed” of his actions, and had found it difficult telling his wider family what had occurred, Mr Reilly added.

Judge Rowan Jackson KC said the offending had a “profound effect” on the victim.

“To put it bluntly, it’s ruined her life,” he said.

Noting the defendant was to be sentenced under the old legislative scheme from the 1980s, where head sentences available to the court were less than they are now, he imprisoned Goodingham for two years, to be suspended after serving three months behind bars, for an operational period of two years.
