The Bureau of Meteorology is keeping a watch on a low in the Arafura Sea northeast of Darwin with a moderate risk at this stage of it becoming a cyclone.
The BOM says tropical low (29U) could develop into a tropical cyclone from Friday.
“A tropical low (29U) should form in the Arafura Sea by Wednesday, “ the BOM said.
“It will then move in a westerly direction into the Timor Sea later in the week.
“From Wednesday evening there is a low chance of the system being a tropical cyclone and this increases to a moderate chance from Friday.”
The BOM has not forecast any threat to Darwin at this stage saying the prospects of a cyclone forming will most likely take place over waters north of the Kimberley.
Some weather experts are predicting the cyclone will most likely impact parts of West Timor and Kupang.
“The system will most likely remain to the north of the Australian coastline over the next seven days,” the BOM said.
