Experts are recommending people who have been in contact with any coronavirus cases should be isolated in their home for 14 days following exposure.
Students and staff from Darwin’s Haileybury Rendall school who travelled to coronavirus affected areas over the Christmas break have already been urged not to return to school until two weeks after their return.
A letter sent from Haileybury Rendall School principal Craig Glass this week said the school was following government advice.
“If you or your child/children has/have been in the affected areas of China and arrived back after 14 January 2020, we strongly recommend they do not commence school until 14 days after their date of arrival in Australia,” he wrote.
Advice also applies to returned travellers who have been in Hubei Province of China, who must also be isolated in their home for 14 days after leaving Hubei Province, other than for seeking individual medical care.
Health minister Natasha Fyles said it was important to put measures in place which would protect the wider community.
“The Territory Labor Government takes all health risks to our community very seriously which is why it’s important to follow recommendations such as these to prevent the transmission of coronavirus in the NT,” she said.
