A car fire in the basement of Argus Apartments in Woods St sparked an evacuation and a major emergency services response on Monday afternoon.
The fire was brought under control by fire units after they first received reports of the blaze about 4pm.
Police and ambulance also attended the blaze, with an NT Fire and Rescue Service (NTFRS) spokeswoman confirming there had been no injuries reported.
Tony and Louis Hickey had arrived in Darwin from Auckland yesterday.
They were staying at the Argus apartments when the blaze started.
“It’s a bit of excitement,” Tony said.
“Before the fire services arrived there was lots of smoke and it was very acrid.
Mr Hickey said he was very impressed by the Territorian firefighter’s resilience in the thick April humidity.
“You wouldn’t want to be a firefighter in this humidity,” he said.
The NTFRS spokeswoman confirmed crews had extinguished the fire by 5pm with crews expected to remain on the scene.
