SOUTHERN Districts jumped to second on the NTFL Premier League ladder last night following their workmanlike 32-point win over Wanderers.
The Crocodiles went to sleep in the third quarter but did enough in the other three to win comfortably 13.13 (91) to 9.5 (59).
A Liam Jurrah mark and goal five minutes into the game from a Dylan Dos Santos pass was the start Wanderers wanted.
But it only served to wake Districts from their early slumber as Josiah Farrer, Davin Hall and Lionel Ogden found plenty of the ball.
Wanderers suffered a big blow in the dying minutes of the first term when key defender Daniel Weetra twisted his left ankle pursuing the ball towards the goal line.
Six Districts players booted goals in the first half as they raced to a 39-point lead at the main break, Farrer and Ed Barlow controlling proceedings forward of the centre and Thomas Holman and Keegan Dingo in charge out of defence.
Wanderers burst out of the blocks in the first 15 minutes of the third term, small forward Mark White booting three goals in an explosive burst and Liam Jurrah unloading from 60 metres to kick his second from a free kick.
But the best moment came from Eagles wingman Dray Thompson, who grabbed the ball just forward of the centre on the members wing and ran 25 metres before goaling from an angle.
That brought young Eagles to within nine points of their opponents after looking well out of the contest in the first three quarters.
But that effort told on the young Eagles, who fell away against a Districts side who left their three quarter time huddle with their ears burning after a blast from coach Shannon Rusca.
STHN DISTRICTS 4.2 8.6 8.9 13.13 (91)
WANDERERS 1.1 2.3 7.4 9.5 (59)
