A FINKE racer is ready to hit the track once again after being reunited with his stolen motorbike just days out from the popular off-road race.

The orange KTM racing motorbike was stolen from 16-year-old Logan Frost, who was staying with family at a Coober Pedy hotel between 10.30pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday.

South Australian police were quick to start investigations with the bike taken from the back of a ute, parked in the town midway between Adelaide and their destination of Alice Springs.

But on Wednesday morning the family were overjoyed to announce the bike had been discovered and the 16-year-old was able to hit the off-road racetrack as planned.

“This just happened, thank you SA Police for the best phone call ever,” Mother Diana Frost said on Facebook.

“Thank you Finke family and the beautiful people of Coober Pedy for all your help. We’re amazed at how many people contacted us with offers of help.”

South Australia police thanked the public for helping recover the bike which was found shortly after 12.30am.

“Police would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating the stolen motorbike,” they posted on Facebook.

“The bike was located shortly after 12.30am on Wednesday 8 June and has been returned to the owner. The investigation is ongoing.

“If anyone has any information that may assist this investigation, please contact Crime Stoppers South Australia on 1800 333 000.”

BIKE STOLEN FROM FINKE RACER

A FINKE racer has lost his ride before they could even reach the starting line of the major off-road motoring event.

South Australian Police are investigating the theft of a racing bike from a family staying at a Coober Pedy hotel on the eve of the great race.

Investigators said the bike was taken from the rear of a ute, parked at a hotel on Hutchison St in the desert town midway between Adelaide and Alice Springs.

Police described the “distinctive” bike as an orange KTM racing motorbike with X80 written on the front and side.

“The motorbike had a full tank of fuel and was marked ready to race in Finke on the weekend,” South Australia police said.

Police said the bike was taken from the Coober Pedy hotel sometime between 10.30pm Monday and 6.30am Tuesday.

SA Police said anyone with information was encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers South Australia on 1800 333 000.
