ACTS of malicious damage to property resurfaced in Alice Springs last week when three cars were firebombed in a motel car park.
Two of the victims, Shaaron Moore and Brian Birrell, had their brand new Nissan Patrol worth more than $80,000 and property worth hundreds of dollars reduced to ashes.
The couple had travelled from remote Western Australia and decided to spend a night in Alice before proceeding to Arhem Land to take up a teaching contract.
“The cars were firebombed,” Ms Moore said.
“The fire was spotted by a security guard from Kmart and he rang authorities.
“The police quickly came in and evacuated everyone from the motel while firies battled to put out the flames.”
Police said a Toyota Hilux was also damaged.
Ms Moore said that regardless of the loss, she had a positive story to tell about Alice Springs.
The incident is now under investigation. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
