Plans Alice Springs Services Australia building seeking to improve ‘functionality and amenity’
Newly filed plans are seeking to ‘modernise’ Centrelink in Alice Springs and improve the existing building’s ‘functionality and amenity’. See the details.
Centrelink in Alice Springs is set to get a facelift, in a bid to “modernise” the existing building in the town’s CBD, according to newly filed plans.
More parking will also be adding to the existing site, according to the plans, which are now open to public consultation.
Tatam Planning Co filed the plan for 5 Railway Tce and 8 Bath St, which are owned by Yeperenye Pty Ltd and the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Darwin Property Trust.
Services Australia leases the Railway Tce building from Yeperenye, the statement of effect for the proposal said.
The building on the church-owned land on Bath St would be demolished to make way for more parking.
“The proposal represents a significant investment in the delivery of government services in Alice Springs, improving both functionality and amenity while contributing positively to the streetscape,” the plan said.
“External works include facade and shading upgrades to Railway Terrace, improved landscaping and pedestrian connections, and the integration of secure access arrangements.
“The development also delivers a total of 54 carparking spaces (including dedicated disabled bays) across the two sites, together with 16 bicycle parking spaces, meeting the operational and accessibility needs of the facility.”
When asked how much the upgrade would cost and what the expected completion date was, a Services Australia spokeswoman said “we are committed to maintaining easy access to government services in Alice Springs”.
“Services Australia continually reviews property requirements to provide the best possible community service and value to taxpayers,” she said.
Submissions for the proposal close midnight, October 24.
