A woman allegedly used her car as a weapon and drove down her partner on a quiet suburban street in Alice Springs.
NT Police have confirmed a 45-year-old woman was in custody after a pedestrian strike around 6.30pm, on Saturday.
It is alleged the woman used a white Ford Laser hatchback to run over her 53-year-old partner on Mahomed St, in The Gap.
A police spokeswoman said the vehicle came to a stop approximately 50m from the point of impact.
The man was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Alice Springs Hospital for further assessment.
Despite community rumours that a man had been killed in the crash, the police spokeswoman said “there was no death in relation to this incident”.
It is alleged the driver tested positive for alcohol and remains in police custody, with charges expected to follow.
As of Sunday morning Mahomed St remained blocked off amid the ongoing major crash investigation.
On the closed street, this masthead observed a white car which appeared to have damage on the front bumpers, with debris scattered on the road and footpath.
The adjoining Walker St remained open to traffic, however a residential fence had been damaged and taped off by police.
The street and neighbourhood were quiet, with the road closure seemingly taking motorists off guard, requiring them to perform some tight U-turns to get out and around the road closure.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or with information to contact 131 444, and quote the reference number P25058677.
