Representatives from Ntaria/Hermannsburg have travelled more than 2000km to represent the Northern Territory in the national Tidy Towns competition.
The awards were held in last year’s Tidy Towns winner, Gascoyne Junction in the northwest of WA, where Beechworth in Victoria was crowned the tidiest town.
But while the Territory town didn’t take out the grand title, it was still crowned winner in the environmental sustainability category.
MacDonnell Regional Council chief executive Belinda Urquhart was one of the many Territorians who travelled in posse representing the Ntaria and the NT, and while the town didn’t take the title, she still called the competition a great initiative.
“It lends a framework that the MacDonnell Regional Council can lean into as we find ways to improve liveability in our remote communities,” she said.
“We align ourselves with the United Nations sustainability goals, aiming for healthy, environmentally friendly, sustainable communities.”
Six finalists from all over the country travelled to Gascoyne Junction to present their case on why they were Australia’s tidiest town.
Representatives from Bathurst in NSW, Bridgewater in Tasmania and Pingelly in WA were the other named finalists.
