A Northern Territory seafood boss says he is a hair’s breadth from pulling the pin on his recently opened Alice Springs shopfront after yet another act of vandalism.
Great Northern Barramundi Men opened its brick and mortar store on Lyndavale Dr at Larapinta, the former site of MaMa’s Kitchen & Pizzeria, just last October.
However, on Monday morning, business owner Gavin Sibley revealed the venture was already on its last legs after the shop faced yet another act of vandalism, this time a rock thrown at his window in the early hours of the morning.
“Myself and [the] girls have just about had enough,” he said in an emotional social media post.
“We feed and look after these kids and this is how we are treated.
“Please help the girls, they’re scared enough.
“Be happy, be seafood happy.”
Mr Sibley claimed the vandalism was in response to his pulling of privileges to young customers, which was in itself in response to the theft of lollies.
“We feed these kids, give ‘em drinks. They stole some lollies the other week so I stopped it all,” Mr Sibley said.
“To do that last night really fu--ed me off.
“We’ve just about had a gutful. They’re throwing rocks at the IGA every single night.”
Mr Sibley said the father of his two young employees who manage the shop had taken to sitting out the front with has jack russell terrier when they are on shift, just to make sure they were not subject to anti-social behaviour.
“I’m probably going to pack up and leave. I don’t want to be stressed out every day,” he said.
“I work 95 hours week and by the time I’ve paid my bills I’ve probably got $100 left.
“I just want to buy fish and do good food for Alice.
“They all appreciate it, but is it worth it?”
Mr Sibley said he wasn’t going to get NT Police involved.
“There’s no use even reporting it, nothing’s going to be done,” he said.
