Crime scene declared after child, five adults injured in Ntaria-Hermannsburg rollover

A child and five adults were allegedly not wearing seatbelts when a drunk driver rolled his car while travelling down a desert road in the Territory.

A young child and five adults have been medevaced to hospital following a rollover near a remote desert community.

NT Police said a triple-0 call at 7.30pm, Wednesday alerted them to a single vehicle crash 4.5km west of Ntaria-Hermannsburg, 126km west of Alice Springs.

It is understood five adults and a child were in the car driving west down Larapinta Dr when the vehicle left the road and rolled.

Police said the group were taken to a local clinic and treated for minor injuries, with the six people flown to Alice Springs for further medical attention.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said three women, two men and a four-year-old were taken to Alice Springs Hospital.

The road remained closed more than 12 hours after the crash, with police declaring it a crime scene.

Police are yet to determine why the rollover occurred, however they allege none of the passengers including the young child were wearing seatbelts.

The suspected driver of the car allegedly returned a high-range reading during his breath test.
