Police have seized a stolen firearm after two 12-year-olds allegedly stared down the barrel of a gun following a brazen daylight burglary in Alice Springs.

UPDATE, FRI: A stolen tactical firearm has been seized after two teens allegedly burgled a home and threatened children with the firearm.

NT Police confirmed a stolen Remington 7615 Pump Action 223 firearm was seized from an Alice Springs home at 6pm on Thursday — seven hours after it was allegedly nicked from a Braitling home.

It is alleged a group of five kids broke into a Woods Terrace home and took the firearm, along with 30 rounds of ammunition.

An initial investigation suggests that the weapon was stored unsecured under a bed before the group fled the home.

It is alleged two members of the group in their mid-to-late teens threatened two 12-year-olds with the gun while on the street.

Police said no arrests have been made, with the investigation ongoing.

INITIAL, THURS: Two gun-wielding teenagers allegedly pointed a stolen firearm at two Alice Springs kids shortly after a brazen daylight burglary.

NT Police continue to call for information after a firearm was allegedly stolen from a Braitling property at 11am on Thursday.

Police allege that a group of five kids broke into the Woods Terrace home and took a Remington 7615 Pump Action 223 firearm and 30 rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged after fleeing the home, two 12-year-olds who were nearby were threatened with the stolen tactical firearm.

The young kids described their alleged attackers as mid-to-late age teenagers of Aboriginal appearance.

One was wearing a sleeveless shirt with a white emblem on the front left upper chest, black and white shorts with a beige cap, while the second alleged offender was wearing a mustard t-shirt, black long shorts with a black cap.

The pair were last seen walking from Harvey Norman towards BP Service Station at 1.30pm.

Police said they were unarmed at the time.

Strike Force Viper — which specialises investigating property crime and vehicle thefts in Alice Springs — are investigating the incident.

The latest NT Police annual report found prohibited weapons crimes increased by 15 per cent over 12 months, with 1157 recorded offences.

Six break-ins in 24 hours is ‘average’: Alice Springs police

Alice Springs recorded six break-ins over a 24 hours period, police said.

Southern Watch Commander Mick Fields said the “average” number of break-ins resulted in just one set of car keys stolen.

He said the car itself remains with its owner.

Sergeant Fields said there had been no arrests or charges in relation to the incidents throughout Wednesday.

Police call on public to assist in alleged assault investigation

NT Police are searching for a man who allegedly assaulted a woman in Alice Springs on Tuesday morning.

A police spokesman said the man allegedly grabbed the female pedestrian from behind and pulled her from the footpath at the Tom Brown roundabout on Bradshaw Dr.

He said the victim allegedly “confronted” the man who then fled through scrubland parallel to Telegraph Tce.

The spokesman said alleged offender was “an Indigenous male, approximately 5’10” tall, aged between 20-30 years old”.

He said the man was wearing a bright red hooded jumper with the hood tightly tied around his face and knee-length khaki-coloured shorts during the alleged incident.

The spokesman said anyone with information or dashcam footage should contact NT Police on 131 444 and quote reference number NTP2300011684.

He said police wished to remind Territorians to “remain vigilant” when walking alone.

Alleged Tennant Creek burglars charged

Two alleged burglars have been charged after they tried to rob a Tennant Creek building on Wednesday morning.

NT Police Acting Senior Sergeant Joel Smith said the pair – aged 21 and 41 – were arrested promptly and later charged with damage to property, aggravated burglary, and theft.

Sergeant Smith said the pair remained in police custody.

“Tennant Creek Police would like extend their appreciation to the vigilant members of the public who promptly reported the incident,” he said.

“The co-operation and immediate reporting by the community played a pivotal role in the quick and successful resolution of the case.

“Police encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly.”

Earthquake rattles Tennant Creek, shocks four states

A minor earthquake has rattled the Territory’s centre, sending shockwaves to four other states.

The magnitude 3.5 earthquake was recorded in Tennant Creek about 11.54pm Tuesday.

According to Geoscience Australia, the rumble ripple across the NT’s border to Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland.

The earthquake – with a depth of 3km – was felt by 21 stations across the country.

Armed robbery leads to hi-tech chase

An Alice Springs woman was threatened with gardening tools inside her own home, before the robbers led police on a hi-tech chase through the seats.

NT Police are continuing to investigate the suspected aggravated robbery and a car theft on Wednesday night.

Police allege that just before 10pm two young people broke into a Sadadeen home and threatened the resident with a garden tool.

She was forced to hand over the keys to her orange Honda CRV, before the unknown offenders ran off with her belongings.

Police allege that her stolen car was later seen driving around Alice Springs city with several teenagers inside.
