THERE were 6800 handmade beanies from around the world on show at the 26th anniversary of the Alice Springs Beanie Festival 2022 at the weekend.
The Araluen Arts Centre hosted textile workshops, Indigenous culture and live entertainment, and there was a variety of food available at the Central Australian festival.
Workshops led by Indigenous women took place in various centres, including Titjikala, Santa Teresa, Ampilatwatja, Willowra, Ali Curung and Tennant Creek.
The women of Ernabella have always extensively worked on beanies for the event.
The event started in 1997 when a small number of individuals orchestrated the festival with about 100 beanies in the Northern Territory.
The event has now grown to be one of the largest beanie festivals in the world with over 6000 beanies and thousands of attendees.
